Odisha CM Congratulates State Hockey Players on Stellar Olympic Show, Announces Cash Rewards – The New Indian Express

BHUBANEWAR: The state government on Wednesday congratulated Odisha’s four hockey players for their outstanding performance at the Tokyo Olympics. At a special function at Kalinga Stadium here, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik presented cash prizes of Rs 2.5 crore and offered letters of nomination as Deputy Superintendent of Police to Birendra Lakra and Amit Rohidas who were part of the men’s hockey team that won a bronze medal at the Olympics.

In addition, the Chief Minister also presented cash prizes of Rs 50 lakh each to Deep Grace Ekka and Namita Toppo who were part of the women’s hockey team at the Olympics. He enjoyed the courageous fight of the women’s team to reach the semi-finals and create the history of Indian hockey.

Praising the performances of the players at the Olympic Games which brought glory to the state as well as the country as a whole, the Chief Minister urged them to continue to bring laurels to the country in the future. He also assured the players of the full support of the state government going forward.

The players expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for supporting Indian hockey leading to wonderful results at the Olympics. The players were happy as the state government fulfilled their pledge of cash rewards and jobs upon arrival.

Birendra Lakra, the vice-captain of the men’s team, and Deep Grace Ekka, the vice-captain of the women’s team, presented team jerseys with the signatures of all team members to the Chief Minister on this occasion.

Sports and Youth Minister Tusharkanti Behera, Odisha Hockey Promotion Council Chairman Dilip Tirkey, 5-T Secretary VK Pandian and Sports Secretary R Veenil Krishna were also present.
